A ginger from the roadside

This is a pretty common ginger, probably of the genus Alpinia (same family with the Galangal or locally called Lengkuas) that is often found on cleared paths and even roadsides in Malaysia. This patch was found on the way to Kg. Chenua in Raub...on the road side.


The massive plants are taller than an adult man with huge inflorescence bearing porcelain white flowers with coral coloured interiors.


Could easily pass off as orchids...
