End of season at Lata Jarum (1)

The heavy rainfall over the weekend after such a prolonged dry season certainly marks the end of an exciting season of flowering Raflessias at Lata Jarum. It was my last visit to the sites for now as work in the office starts to pile and things just got a bit busier...also the fact that we won't be seeing any flowers any soon, judging by the size of the buds in progress.

A dark blue dragonfly sunning itself on a concrete slab.

A tiger beetle

A winged seed on the floor.

A spectacular caterpillar feeding on the leaves of an Eugenia sp.

A fallen fig.

A metallic grasshopper resting on a leaf.

A close-up of the grasshopper taken by a friend who came along the trip.

A cockcroach.

Beautiful flaming red torch ginger flowers everywhere...

A juvenile silvery leaf of the Tapak Harimau...

A moth resting in the shades.

A tiny beetle.

A pretty crimson-coloured Henckelia spp. in the shades.

Fungi growing along the trunk of a dead tree.

Velvety fig fruit found along the path...

The fully opened Tacca lily.

Our own 'morpho' butterfly, the beautiful Dark Blue Jungle Glory, Thaumantis noureddin. The startled insect will leave streaking iridescence blue impression in the wake of its flight in the dark forest floor.

The putrified flower from last week...one more bud to go.

A tiny developping bud.

A tall Saraca spp. tree with flowers on its trunk.

The flowers...
